Out-of-the-box features:
- 100% open source and built on top of open-source technologies
- Complies with ISO 14721 (OAIS) standard from ingestion to access
- Includes a pre-ingest module for seamless deposit of datasets
- Uses the most widely implemented metadata standards in the preservation field (DataCite and PREMIS) for long-term reliability
- Checks files for virus and assesses of data compliance level with reference registries (UK National Archives and Library of Congress)
- Gives control of data location, redundancy (number of copies) and preservation planning actions (checksum verification, maintenance tasks, etc.)
Customisation:
- Choice of preservation policy, licences and workflow (with optional validation)
- From minimal generic metadata to customisable discipline-specific metadata schema
- Customizable dashboard to monitor metrics (preserved volumes, cost...)
- Integrable with third party solutions (institutional servers and applications for research data management)
- Scalable to institution-wide petabyte-level solutions
- SaaS, on premise or hybrid deployment
Integration
The OLOS modular architecture enables ingestion, management and access functionalities according to the main functional units of the OAIS reference model. OLOS modules allow for seamless integration through APIs with data centres, research environments and institutional applications for research data management, providing a solution for any type of data that researchers and institutions wish to manage for the long term.
OLOS was developed using open-source technologies and is supported by standards such as:
- Open Archival Information System (OAIS)
- Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard (METS)
- DataCite (Metadata Schema)
- PREMIS (Preservation Metadata)
- BagIt (file packaging format)
- FITS (file format identification)
- PRONOM (file registry database from the UK National Archives)
- etc.
